Update policy

Ververica Cloud Service changes, that are made generally available to all Users, are managed with Updates (Major and Minor) and Deprecations.

This section describes Update and Depreciations changes and how are these managed in Ververica Cloud.

Updates

Any type of Update can introduce new features, improvements, interfaces changes, bug fixes or security patches.

Major update

Any change to Ververica Cloud that requires changes to any Users application or 3rd party services to continue working as before.

  • Frequency of update: Rare (~1 per year)
  • Impact of update: Potential User impact could be large, preventing using Ververica services without Users application or 3rd party services code or configuration changes. Performance profile could be problematically altered. May be totally transparent without impact, depending on how Users uses Ververica Cloud services.
  • Communication before update: Guaranteed email notifications to all registered Ververica Cloud Users before the scheduled update date. Communication will include change details and available options for Users to enable least disruptive transition. Guaranteed updated documentation and release notes. May also include in app/services messaging. communication from Sales and Support. Communication before update will be done in timely manner, taking into account Users application impact, completely at Ververica discretion.
  • Update schedule for all users: May be coordinated with Users to avoid high risk periods and/or to make the update earlier than planned, however the final decision about scheduled time is up to Ververica.

Minor update

Any change to Ververica Cloud that isn’t Major update or Deprecation.

  • Frequency of update: Very Often
  • Impact of update: Minimal service impact handled in graceful manner or totally transparent, depending on whether / how Users uses Ververica Cloud services.
  • Communication before update: Communication is not guaranteed. Communication may include email notifications, in app/services messaging, updated documentation and release notes, and communication from Sales and Support.
  • Update schedule for all users: Completely at Ververica discretion.

Deprecations

Any removal of users used functionality from Ververica Cloud Services.

  • Frequency of update: Rare (~1 per year)
  • Impact of update: Potential User impact could be large, preventing using Ververica services if Users application or 3rd party services are in user of Ververica service or part of service being deprecated. May be totally transparent without impact, depending on whether / how Users uses Ververica Cloud services.
  • Communication before update: Guaranteed email notifications to all registered Ververica Cloud users, before the scheduled update date. Communication will include change details and available options for Users to enable least disruptive transition. Guaranteed updated documentation and release notes. May also include in app/services messaging. communication from Sales and Support. Communication before update will be done in timely manner, taking into account Users application impact, completely at Ververica discretion.
  • Update schedule: May be coordinated with Users to avoid high risk periods and/or to make the update earlier than planned, however the final decision about scheduled time is up to Ververica.
note

Deprecation may be part of Major Update without guarantee of equivalent functionality in new Ververica Cloud services.
